MaritimeMaritimetransportTransport is defined as “any movement of goods and/or passengersPassenger using seagoing vessels on voyages which are undertaken wholly or partly at seaSea”. The freightFreight/cargoCargocomponentComponent of the systemSystems carries out the above-mentioned goods/freightFreight/cargoCargoshipmentsShipments as one of the most important worldwide. The main components of the maritimeMaritimetransportTransportsystemSystems are its global and regional shippingShipping network, established at globalGlobal and regional geographical scale, respectively. The globalGlobalmaritimeMaritimenetworkNetwork comprises the seaSealanesLane/roadsRoad or shippingShippinglanesLane spreading on oceans and seasSea as links connecting the nodes-seaSeaportsPort usually located at different continents. The regional seaSeanetworkNetwork consists of the seaSealanesLane closer to the coast of countries facing the seaSea and/or ocean and connecting the portsPort of a single or of the neighbouring countries. In both networksNetwork, the shipsShip of different categories in terms of the available capacity, operatingOperatingspeedSpeed, and energy/fuel consumption carry out transportTransportservicesServices delivering different freightFreight/cargoCargoshipmentsShipments. In most cases, transportTransportservicesServices are carried as scheduled/plannedPlanned.
