Today INA Schaeffler KG is known for its Variable Camshaft Phasing systems (VCP) throughout the world. VCPs are standard on many production engines world wide today due to their ability to positively influence the combustion process and thus allow to improve fuel economy, engine torque, as well as reduce emissions. Current variable camshaft phasing systems are of the engine oil actuated type. The objective of this paper is to show the features of a new generation, high performance Electric Camshaft Phasing (ECP) system that can be used to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
