Firestone has now released its production High Energy Level Pneumatic (HELP) bumper system, designed to fit all transit coaches presently made by prime bus manufacturers; it is also adaptable for retrofit to older coaches. Vehicle tests have demonstrated 6 mph barrier crash capability and 10 mph collisions into pre-1973 passenger cars with no damage to bus or HELP bumper. Collisions with a 1974 passenger car at speeds to 8.5 mph resulted in no damage to either vehicle.
