Design requirements for the Flight Control System of America’s first manned lunar landing vehicle are discussed in terms of broad mission aspects.Basic functions of the combined control-guidance-propulsion loop are discussed in relation to mission sequence of events.Two critical design areas, reliability and the man/machine interface, are discussed in detail and some design approaches are reviewed.
