The present work aims to analyze the influence of the steering ratio in a vehicle dynamics model. With the purpose of doing this, a multibody model correlated in kinematics and compliance (KnC) parameters to an experimental vehicle was developed. Given the increasing use of computational methods in the most diverse areas of Engineering, the aforementioned correlation is a fundamental part in the generation of vehicle models for vehicle dynamic simulators. Going through the fundamental concepts of vehicle dynamics and focusing in particular on the Chassis Engineering group, this paper will approach more specifically the suspension and steering systems. To this end, the methodology presented here begins with obtaining data from an experimental vehicle by means of a kinematic parameter acquisition machine. Basically, the machine in question is responsible for presenting how the suspension and steering assembly behaves as the vehicle undergoes stress through the steering wheel or forces outside the system, for example. With the collected data, going through a series of software of which it is possible to example MATLAB, begins the generation of a multibody model with the aid of ADAMS/Car software. From a sequence of simulations in this software, the parameters are adjusted therein until the virtual (VI) multibody model corresponds properly to the experimental vehicle. At the moment this step is completed, another model is developed with the steering ratio increased from the nominal design value. Posteriorly, the models are converted for VI-CarRealTime and they are taken to a real-time center of excellence in vehicle dynamics with nine degrees of freedom, where is possible to analyze the vehicle behavior when the steering ratio is changed.
