Simulation results are used to illustrate the features and capabilities of a l00kW, 540V DC laboratory system that is under development at the University of Manchester. The laboratory system comprises a twin-spool gas engine emulator with fault-tolerant generators, four active load emulators, an energy storage system and a reconfigurable distribution network. The simulation results examine the effects of parallel generator operation and generator faults, load and bus-bar switching and the impact of the energy storage device.
