The intermediate bracket between the parking brake lever and the conduit receives a reaction force due to the cable friction with the cable. The determination of this force by physical directly measurement is very complicated, due to the system small dimensions making it not compatible with the conventional force transducer, that is not enough space between the reaction bracket and lever base to install the instrumentation. To measure it is necessary a vehicle prototype with sophisticated indirect ways to measure it, as strain gages on the surrounding parts or an intervention in parking brake cable that can affect the final numbers. In addition to measure it by a virtual method is not an easy too.An alternative for this problem is to perform the measurements by CAE techniques, creating a model of the entirely parking brake system but this requires a model detailing level, as non-geometrical linearities, the details of the braided steel cable, the friction surfaces and its properties and others. In other words, the work will need a several weeks of work and a lot of input data and this is not practical too.The objective of this work is to understand and determine the load on the reaction parking brake bracket when the braking lever is acted, by a simple way and facilitate the futures vehicles development. This entire process will be performed with the aid of physical measurements, CAE tools and statistical process.
