The paper is a result of a design prototype for an instantaneous rear-wheel maneuvering system which would further aid as an assistance to the driver of the vehicle. Every year around 1.71 million motor vehicle crashes are reported in the United States out of which 59% of the fatal ones involve only a single vehicle. Owing to vehicle dynamics factor of terminal understeer, especially while speeding, the instantaneous feedback system piloting the rear-wheel in correspondence with the driver input for steering the vehicle can be used to mitigate the effects of understeer. Understeer can be defined as the situation where the vehicle fails to completely negotiate a turn along its bend and not respond to the drivers input completely as intended. It occurs when the front tyres do not have enough grip to carry out the cornering maneuver asked of them. Main causes of understeer include excessive cornering speed, wet / icy road conditions, incorrect tyre pressures and poor tyre condition (tread depth etc). In this paper we see the design, formulation and conceptualization of a prototype for the instantaneous control of the rear wheels in order to assist with driver safety in the aforementioned scenario consequences and circumstances.
