Vision Zero is an approach to road safety that originated in Sweden in 1997. Now an international safety movement being adopted around the globe, Vision Zero is based on the simple but tremendous concept that no loss of life is acceptable on the roadways. In striving to achieve zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries, Vision Zero calls upon transportation professionals to design road systems that protect users, knowing that human error is responsible for the majority of crashes. Roads must be designed to protect everyone that encounters and interacts with them -- from drivers and transit riders to pedestrians and bicyclists.
