McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Company has been actively involved in the development of the U.S. Army sponsored Second Generation Comprehensive Helicopter Analysis System (2GCHAS) over the last five years. This paper describes the multidisciplinary nature of the software, the multicontractor and multi-site environment within which the development took place, the development standards used and evolution of the final product. Valuable lessons were learned during this task that can be used in future developments.
