Application of the theory to the design of navigation filters for the estimation of the platform failure angle and to the design of feedback networks for the alignment of a Doppler supported inertia navigation system (INS) in flight was investigated. A failure model of the Doppler supported INS was drawn up and its command and observation capabilities were analyzed. A possible procedure for the design of optimal (Kalman-Bucy) and suboptimal navigation filters is given. Static and dynamic feedback networks were developed and their failure behavior investigated. The design procedure proposed is optimal in the sense of smallest stationary standard deviations.
