NEMO is a national model system for freight transport. By this first version of NEMO we have established a tool to distribute demand for freight transport between modes and route in Norway. The model is roughly calibrated and needs more thoroughly testing before applications to specific problems. The model system considers the modes road, rail and sea simultaneously, and simulates competition between the modes as well as cooperation in terms of intermodal solutions. NEMO is a network model with main components the network representation of the infrastructure, the demand for freight transport in term of OD-matrices and cost functions to distribute the freight flow between modes and routes.
