The technological and economic structure of the German civil avionics industry was analyzed. The study was mainly designed to answer the question of whether and in which area the technological development of the German civil avionics industry can be meaningfully furthered by systematic government support. The relevant information was obtained in interviews with experts in Germany and other countries. A Delphi survey and a workshop served to assess and check the plausibility of the results obtained. A catalog of 11 technologies recommended for public assistance under a support program of the Federal German Ministry of Research and Technology is given.
