The apogee boost motor, used in the Hipparcos satellite, is presented. It is applied to circularize the satellite's initial elliptical transfer orbit, determined by the launch vehicle, into a circular near geosynchronous orbit. The solid propellant MAGE 2 motor (European geostationary apogee motor), is described. The operating mode for the injection into a geostationary orbit is examined. The motor thrust curve and pressure curve during firing as a function of time are given. The apogee boost motor mass budget and the mechanical interfaces to the spacecraft are summarized.
