The East Coast Greenway (ECG) is a multi-modal transportation corridor currently being developed for bicyclists, hikers and other non-motorized users, extending from Calais, Maine to Key West, Florida. This study assessed route conditions and addressed other route planning issues within a seven-county coastal area comprising a 259-mile length of the Greenway extending through coastal regions of South Carolina. A database was assembled to evaluate transportation issues, bicycle suitability, alternative route comparisons, facility needs assessment, route continuity and improvement recommendations. The study contains a variety of tabulations that describe existing conditions along the SC East Coast Greenway. Results from this study should be useful in development of integrated facilities and linkages needed to accommodate the East Coast Greenway within coastal regions of South Carolina.
