This study investigated the principal dimensions and power required for nuclear-powered submarine tankers of three different hull forms -- one with a draft limitation -- designed to carry 20,000, 30,000, and 40,000 tons of cargo dead-weight, and at speeds of 20, 30, and 40 knots submerged. One of the 27 ensuing designs was then selected by the Maritime Administration for a more detailed study. The vessels described in the report are purely commercial, with no special features included to adapt them to military use. Furthermore, no attention was given to the economics of operation of such vessels.
