This monograph examines the doctrinal employment of the attack helicopter battalion (ATXHB) in heavy division reconnaissance and counterreconnaissance operations. This study first explores the doctrinal meaning of the terms reconnaissance and counterreconnaissance. Next, the paper, based on data from the National Training Center, Operation Desert Storm, and the Battle Command Training Program, examines the doctrinal employment of the ATKHB in reconnaissance and counterreconnaissance operations.
