The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations were first designed with the trucking industry in mind. Regulations related to passenger motor carriers were added as time passed. As the general public's attention began to focus on the safety of commercial motor vehicles, so did the attention to the motorcoach and the passenger motor carrier industry. With this attention came a broader understanding of the complextities and uniqueness of the passenger motor carrier industry and those issues of safety expressed by the industry and their respective associations. The manual is a basic Standardized Motorcoach Mechanic's Training Curriculum for mechanics entering the passenger carrier industry and is the direct result of one of those safety needs being identified and acted upon by the Federal Highway Administration.
