The document provides information on restraint systems for the transport of goods in light vans and is intended for use by both van manufacturers and operators. A variety of load restraint systems have been developed. The main ones are bulkheads intended to provide occupant protection by holding back the load, racks used with containers into which loose tools and other small items can be gathered, and floor anchorages with webbing restraints used to anchor heavy loads of a variable nature. The Recommended Practice was the outcome of a group sponsored project arranged by MIRA which brought together the main organizations involved, that is, the fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers, restraint manufacturers and racking manufacturers. They steered a program of test work, analysis and assessment to provide a consensus specification for light van restraint systems.
