A detailed study was performed on the five demonstration bikeways built by the Maryland State Highway Administration. Bicyclists were counted and interviewed; community surveys were distributed to residents near four of the five bikeways; the design elements and traffic control devices were inventoried, accident data were tabulated; bikeway maintenance procedures were investigated; and cost values were determined. Based on this information, conclusions and recommendations were developed for each bikeway and the general statewide bikeway demonstration program.
