Earthnet, the European-based program involved with the acquisition, archiving, preprocessing, and distribution of satellite remote sensing data, is discussed in terms of scope and experience with NASA satellites. Interface with the SEASAT 1 satellite, the Nimbus 7, the Heat Capacity Mapping Mission (HCMM), and LANDSAT satellites is described. The cataloging and transmission of image data at Earthnet facilities are reviewed. The ERS-1 satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Spacelab project are discussed with respect to Earthnet.
