The analysis is part of a study conducted for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to determine if there are feasible and desirable activities that state agencies could perform to improve the effectiveness of motor vehicle safety defect recall campaigns. The paper presents the results of an analysis of one potential state activity: Verifying compliance with safety defect recall campaigns during state safety inspections.
