Several aircraft operators were consulted to determine if they could supply flight data to ATS which would make a significant difference to the trajectories calculated by flight data processing systems, particularly in the initial climb phase. In parallel, simulations were carried out using a typical trajectory prediction simulator to assess the benefits which might be obtained from this data. The study then went on to investigate when and how this data could by supplied.
