The Nimbus-F Earth Observational Satellite is a three-axis earth-stabilized research and development spacecraft. Its purpose is to flight test a variety of atmospheric sounding, profiling and water vapor and ice cover observations experiments. It will also test the feasibility of transfer of satellite tracking, command and telemetry transmissions between the STDN and another orbiter orbiting satellite via the Tracking and Data Relay Experiment.
