The expressway is a proposed multi-lane facility that would serve projected heavy traffic volumes between Columbia and West Columbia and would adequately handle the anticipated traffic caused by urban development and the present heavy traffic loads along U. S. Routes 1 and 378. A number of houses and businesses would require removal because of their location along the new right of way. Another possible adverse environmental effect would be grounds division and noise factors regarding the Central Correctional Institute located at the Congaree River.
