The objectives of the study were to investigate a means of recording tire and pavement temperatures during skid resistance testing, and to install such instrumentation on the test vehicle for the purpose of developing and interpreting data with regard to the effects of temperature variations on resulting skid test values. Tire and pavement temperature measuring apparatus has been permanently installed on the skid test equipment and is used in the continuing skid resistance testing program. Based on the data accumulated in this study, a linear relationship of speed and tire temperature to skid was determined for the test sections evaluated and a predictability of skid number change per unit change of these factors was computed for the pavement sections tested.
