Complex automation of navigational processes is one of the basic trends in technological progress in the merchant fleet. A necessary condition fo achievement of such automation is the availability of precise and objective information on the surrounding situation, including the meteorological environment. More and more meteorological gear is being used aboard ships of the transport and fishing fleet, oceanographic and hydrographic vessels. The basic meteorological systems serially produced by the domestic industry for installation aboard ships, are discussed in this article.
