The project sought to determine the most efficient and cost effective passenger vehicle policies for the city. Data was collected on the structure and cost of operating and maintaining the current municipal vehicle fleet. Comparative data was obtained from six Indiana cities, three public utilities, and one university. Based on this research, six recommendations were made: (1) reassess transportation needs of city employees; (2) establish a central car pool; (3) establish a management information system; (4) improve preventive maintenance; (5) develop vehicle operating procedures manual; and (6) appoint a fleet administrator.
