The Unsteady Transonic Delta Program (UTDP), an ongoing cooperative U.S.-Dutch program of research between Lockhead Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems, Fort Worth, Texas, USA and the National Aircraft Systems, Fort Worth, Texas, USA and the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), Amsterdam, the Netherlands, focuses on two closely related areas: Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCO) on a realistic fighter configuration and unsteady transonic flows about a simple straked delta wing. As part of this program a wind tunnel visualization test on a highly instrumeted semi-span straked delta wing model was conducted in NLR's High Speed Tunnel in August 1996. Flow visualization was conducted using a vapor screen technique with multiple laser light sheet positions, highlighting flow field characteristics associated with Limit Cycle Oscillations and high incidence shock/vortx interactions and flow breakdown.
