The summary was based on an analysis of accident reports for the calendar years 1965 and 1966, submitted by large interstate motor carriers of property, almost exclusively those with ICC authority, (annual operating revenues of $200,000 or more). It includes only those accidents which result in a fatality, a non-fatal injury, and/or total property damage of $250.00 or more. Data in this report should be of interest to all types of motor carriers, since it furnishes valuable information on trends and accident experience by geographical location, type of commodity, hour and day, type of carrier, and driver's age. It should be used by motor carriers to measure their own accident experience against the composite figures to determine whether its experience is above or below the average. (Author)
