The study material is from the Automotive Crash Injury Research program. All injury producing rural automobile accidents were included which had been received up to July 1968. Specifically, impacts from the rear direction to the rear portions of the car were considered. Only U.S. made sedans, hardtops, and station wagons were included, and the occupants accounted for were not ejected from the vehicle, nor were they restrained by seat belts or comparable devices, or used head rests Several approaches to the problem of flexion-torsion neck injuries are described in detail. The approaches include: Paired comparisons; Group comparisons; Stature of the occupants; Front seat damage, and Medical appraisal. (Author)
