The National Safety Council estimates that the value of goods and services each worker must produce to offset the cost of work injuries is $350. Work injuries in the United States cost more than $37 billion. In 1985, more than 13 percent of all accidents or 9 million injuries occurred in industrial places according to the National Health Review Survey. 2. Injuries, death, and disability are results of accidents. Costs combined with worker pain, disability, and loss of life emphasize the importance of accident prevention on all levels of industrial maintenance operations.
