Basic technical considerations for layout, design, and operation of hypersonic rocket sleds are reviewed and summarized on the basis of experience collected during experimental monorail sled runs. Emphasis is placed on selected aspects of aerodynamics, frictional and aerodynamic heating, and technological problems at the sled-rail interface. (Author)
