The report studies the economic situation of the shipping agents in Finnmark following a decrease in freight volumes by Hurtigruten in 2006. The shipping agents, having a considerable share of their turnover related to Hurtigruten, are vulnerable to competition from road transport, and suffer from fluctuations in initially small freight volumes. The situation at the start of 2007 is, however, not worse than a year earlier. Public purchase of passenger transport on Hurtigruten also helps maintain an attractive freight transport product, but the supporting apparatus on shore is not as well taken care of.
