Theoretical and experimental results for short period stick-free dynamic stability (porpoising) are compared. Classical dynamic equations of motion were used to describe the longitudinal stability of a turboprop aircraft equipped with an all-movable servotab longitudinal control system. Flight test evidence of dynamic stick-free instability does not agree with the theoretical analysis. The effect of an additional parameter, the torsional rigidity of the servotab plane, included in the model explains the difference between theoretical and flight-test results.
