In national polling, NASA enjoys a positive approval rating, broadly in the range of 65-75%. But often people are not sure why they attribute high approval ratings, what NASA does beyond the broad category of 'space,' and are even less sure of NASA future plans. This discussion attempts to answer questions of why we continue to explore space, citing competitiveness, curiosity and monument building.
