This study deals with the pressure transient behavior of the hydraulic brake control system. The present anti-lock brake system (ABS) products have the problem of undesired heavy pressure overshooting and fluctuation. The high pressure spark and fluctuation introduce not only noise and vibration in the brake piping, but also excessive strain and stress in the suspension system. Based on the existing theory of fluid transients, a group of partial differential equations were established to describe the brake system with ABS. In order to solve these equations numerically, computer programs were developed in C programming language. The theoretical modeling was verified by a bench testing system which has the same pressure modulation mechanism as the ABS system does.
