The genesis of natural wind is described from a meteorological standpoint. Its influence on aircraft trajectories is discussed with reference to steady winds, turbulence, and wind shear. The main problems exist when flight is close to the ground, during landing, take-off, or terrain following. A model for analysis and simulation is presented consisting of four components - dynamics, kinematics and transformations, aerodynamics, and wind. The axis systems chosen are well suited to simulation of landing and take-off.
