A description of the preliminary design of the Space Sextant-High Altitude Navigation System (SS-HANS) is contained in this volume of the Phase 0 final report. Engineering effort was directed primarily at the detailed preliminary design of the Space Sextant and in the definition of the software, computation and storage requirements for navigation with the sextant. This detailed preliminary design effort was conducted upon completion of configuration trade studies as documented in Volume 2 and of the Prime Item Development Specification documented in Volume 3.
