Pneumatic timing as defined in FMVSS 121 was determined for a broad sampling of vehicles. During these tests the apply and release timing of the brakes on various axles was measured. Vehicle tests and computer simulations were run to evaluate the effect of brake timing on stopping distance and vehicle stability. A new test rig for measuring trailer brake timing was developed. The report presents a description of the test program, all of the data collected and an analysis of the results.
