This is an interim report in a study to evaluate the factors which cause vehicles to fail to meet emission standards in use, determine how adequately the EPA motor vehicle emission factors characterize in-use emission levels of vehicles, and determine appropriate adjustments, if any, that should be made to the EPA emission factors. This interim report presents a survey of the types of emission control technologies used on vehicles produced over the past five years and projected to be used on future model year vehicles.
