The panel was asked to review the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposal for a National Airspace System Plan (NASP) and to appraise its technical and economic feasibility. In discharging this task the panel convened in Washington, DC, four times for five days of meetings between April and July, 1982. In addition to briefings and demonstrations presented or arranged by the FAA, the panel met with representatives of the Department of Defense and discussed the proposed plan with persons representing a variety of affected or concerned organizations and agencies outside the Federal government.
