At the request of the Swedish Road Safety Office (TSV) the concept of a double booster cushion has been developed at the Swedish Road and Traffic Research Institute (VTI). The cushion is intended for two children aged 4 to 10 years and enables four persons to be fastened in the rear seat. The booster cushion is fastened by the ordinary lap belt in the middle of the rear seat. The aim of the study was to test four different prototypes of the double booster cushion. The results show that one cushion was found to be too uncomfortable for the children to sit on. Another cushion was very comfortable for the children using it but quite uncomfortable for those sitting next to it. The test did not result in a 'very best cushion' as the comfort of both those using the cushion and those sitting next to it had to be considered. The result had to be a compromise of the two aspects.
