Ever since the beginning of the container revolution container top safety is a matter of growing concern to a growing number of people and organizations in a growing number of countries all around the world: dockworkers, seafarers, stevedores, shipowners, port authorities and authorities responsible for health and safety at work. The corresponding organizations in the Netherlands - all represented in de National Ports Council (NPC) - recently have reached a joint opinion on this matter. In their view it is possible both to eliminate the danger of falling from a height and to improve gantry crane productivity. This however only can be brought about by international cooperation.
