The objective of the project was to determine experimentally the effects of the detonation of high-yield nuclear weapons upon the structure of a B-47B type aircraft positioned to receive the predicted maximum allowable radiant exposure. To realize this objective, the aircraft was instrumented in a manner that would judiciously measure these effects and enable comparison with data gathered in previous weapon effects tests, notably Operation c0vy.
