In the airport environment, apron personnel have to face with airlines requesting a shortening of turnround times while maintaining quality of service, including compliance with safety procedures. Such stressing situation tends to increase with the expected grow of air passenger traffic. On top, environmental sustainability has become an issue for ground operations. Airports start therefore to collaborate in research projects to improve airport operational efficiency. Location-based technologies can help airport stakeholders with innovative approaches for monitoring the execution of operational procedures, validating at the same time their compliance with business and safety rules. Such approach creates in fact a consistent view about on-going tasks, enabling airport stakeholders to take better operational decisions based on information that is continuously updated together with the exact spatio-temporal context they occur. This paper presents the outcome of three research projects and analyse the complementarity of their results.
