Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) of installed fiber are studied. Data from a standard high-fiber count, buried, ducted cable of recent vintage (c. 1999) NZ-DSF fiber (True Wave Reduced Slope) are presented. This includes long-term measurements from interferometric and wavelength-scanned techniques as well as a new in-situ technique. Some of the challenges for PMD are also discussed.
