Summary form only given. Recently, fiber-optic millimeter (mm)-wave radio link systems have aroused strong interest and have been developed using a subcarrier transmission technique. In these systems, an electric-to-optical (E/O) converter is a key device, which has to operate in a very high frequency range up to mm-waves. The E/O converter for these systems requires not only the high frequency modulation up to mm-wave, but also low driving voltage and a small size. An electroabsorption (EA) modulator is one of the candidates for this use. We have developed, for the first time to our knowledge, a 60-GHz band optical modulator module using an EA modulator with an impedance-matching circuit. In this paper, we report the module structure and properties.
