A massive gap exists between aircraft maintenance planning functions and aircraft maintenance engineering services. The airline industry requires a more effective solution to improve the utilization and efficiency of their maintenance planning and maintenance engineering personnel so that aircraft maintenance turnaround time can be reduced to the optimal level, as it is a significant factor contributing to improving aircraft serviceability and availability for more revenue flights and generate more business. This exploratory study evaluated the significance of maintenance planning within the airline industry. It aimed to find a solution to reduce the time spent in maintenance management in the turnaround process. It also attempted to discover opportunities for airlines to follow a proactive approach in identifying problems early, thus improving overall aircraft efficiency and reducing lost time.
