Structures capable of generating third-harmonic at any given wavelength are proposed. Using this method, we have fabricated optical superlattices based on LiTaO/sub 3/. A blue third-harmonic was achieved with an efficiency higher than 27%, while the efficiency of the red second-harmonic is up to 73%.
